Places to see Art in London

People visiting (or even living in) London often go to the obvious places to see art, however there are many hidden gems that get overlooked or remain relatively unknown. One such place is the

Guildhall

Which contains some remarkable paintings including some without reproduction rights - so you have to go there to see them! It has a wonderful Rossetti.

One of the strangest places in london is

The Wallace Collection

Here you can see 'The Laughing Cavalier' who as my friend always points out isn't laughing and isn't a cavalier! Amazing nevertheless. There is another painting in one of the must see bedrooms that proves Oliver Reed was a time traveler! There is also a nice Le Brun.

For Contemporary Art try the soon to be opened

Saatchi Gallery

And never miss the

Royal Academy

Summer Show!

I live near Shoreditch in East London, a very vibrant place for art, around the corner is Brick Lane where, apart from the many Curry Houses you can find all sorts of Arts and Crafts, and a very busy street market on Sundays. Brick lane is dominated by

The Old Truman Brewery

Which has many exhibitions, including most of the London and National University Student Degree shows during the summer months. There are many small galleries in and around Brick lane, including the group belonging to or affiliated with

The Brick Lane Gallery

Further into Shoreditch there are numerous small galleries, in the area of Rivington Street, and Leonard street (which has a good Street/Urban art gallery), and is the home of

The Photographers Association Gallery

Not to be confused with

The Photographers Gallery

near St Martins School of Art in Central London.

Art auctions are fun places to visit too,

Criterion Auctions

hold regular Art sales, where you can often bag a bargain!

that's it for now, I'll add anything interesting I come across.
